Caulfield Townhouse Renovation 2
We were very excited when a second owner in this townhouse complex asked for our help with their renovation (see Caulfield Townhouse Renovation 1 below). Although the original floor plan is a mirror image of our first Caulfield Townhouse Renovation, working with a different client resulted in a unique vision to suit their needs. The final projects are very different! The main level is very open, with a clean modern feel complimented by some more rustic touches in the flooring and light fixtures. The master suite was entirely reconfigured so that the bedroom would be adjacent to the sliding doors and deck area, while the darker corner now houses a walk-in closet and ensuite. The original vaulted ceiling makes for a stunning volume within the master shower. The finished attic space is now a bright family room with double skylights, which can also act as an extension of the laundry area when required.

Caulfield Townhouse Renovation 1
When this 1970's West Vancouver townhouse was purchased from the original owners by a young family, they asked for our help in transforming the dark, dated space into the bright and open home of their dreams. New skylights on the main level and above the stairwell allowed light to penetrate throughout the home, as well as providing natural ventilation in the summer. The kitchen was opened up and redesigned as the social center of the home, book-ended by seating areas with new breakfast bar on one side and a cozy banquette on the other. The master suite was reconfigured to allow for a soaker tub in the ensuite and a home-office niche next to the balcony. The attic area was finished to provide the perfect space for their kids to play and the family to relax together.

Marine Drive Heritage Reno with Modern Addition
The new owners of this 1930's home in West Vancouver were in love with the modern updates that had been done over time, including an ultra-modern concrete addition. They wanted to bring a more contemporary aesthetic to the rest of the space and create a home worthy of the million-dollar views of this water-front property. Our design worked to respect the heritage elements of the original home while reflecting the more modern sensibilities of its new owners. A unifying palette of colours and materials bridged the gap between the original spaces and the new, creating a harmonious experience throughout the home despite its different styles.

False Creek 1-Bedroom Condo Renovation
This one-bedroom condo is blessed with spectacular views of False Creek to the North-West. However, the long narrow footprint prevented any light from reaching the back spaces, and the tiny galley kitchen was cut off from everything in the darkest corner. We proposed a drastic change to solve these problems: remove the walls of kitchen and bedroom and create an open-plan studio. Those incredible views are now visible from every living space and light floods throughout the home. A sliding glass wall allows for flexibility and privacy, and a wall-bed closes up during the day making space for the separate Library the home owner had always dreamed of.

City Center 2-Bedroom Condo Renovation
This 1990's condo was badly in need of an update, and a series of small rooms to the South was impeding flow and preventing light from penetrating into the other spaces. By opening these up the home feels more expansive, and the new niches are perfect for separate functions without being isolated from the main space. Elsewhere, extensive built-ins helped this couple with the storage they needed as they downsized from their large family home.

W. 14th Ave Heritage Renovation
This beautiful character home was being used as a rooming-house and on the verge of being condemned by the city when it was saved by the intervention of our clients. The house was restored to allow this professional couple with a teenage daughter to move in and care for an ailing parent. Privacy for multiple generations and built-in future flexibility were the key concepts behind the design. A huge kitchen with central island, multiple work spaces and connection to the South-facing deck was conceived as the main gathering space for the entire family. Each of the other floors was dedicated to one generation, with sleeping spaces, work spaces, and lounging spaces provided on each level. This created a balance between togetherness and privacy which respected the independence for each family member. Additional plumbing and service connections were provided to allow for the easy conversion of the upper levels to a separate suite, either for their daughter if she chose to stay in the family home or for future rental income.

Fairview Slopes Studio Makeover
With very little budget remaining after purchasing their first home, this young couple wanted to freshen up their space and do as much they could within a small square footage. We used colour-blocking to define the kitchen volume, deleting a dated pass-though and replacing it with a cute niche, and used open shelving to create a feeling of spatiousness. In the main living area we used light, bright colours to enlarge the space and a conversation area with daybed transforms seamlessly from day to night.
